Midori's mother has finally acquired her dream home, but it isn't long before supernatural phenomenas disrupt the peace of the family. And if unexplained electricity failures, strange phone calls, and the eerie presence of spirits weren't enough, finding unexplainable blood in the bathroom becomes the last straw. Mai and Shibuya Psychic Research are brought in to investigate, but what horrors will they find in the 'dream' home that turns out to be nothing but a nightmare?

Two friends investigate the disappearance of a writer on a small island, which has been largely cut off from the mainland since the fall of the Shinto during the Meji era. They stumble across several strange occurrences, such as a naked female corpse hanging upside down on a tree during one stormy night. Locals speak of old-standing traditions, folk rituals and superstitions, but after more bodies were found, Shiho and Tsuyoshi wonder if there's a serial killer among the locals…

Takashi is haunted at night by visions of a woman begging for her child not to be taken away. He sometimes sees strange shadows outside his window, but tries his best to simply ignore them. As his seventeenth birthday approaches, the shadow becomes more and more clear, and the vision more vivid. Slowly, the once kind and caring Takashi becomes indifferent, and eventually cold and biting towards everyone around him. What does this sudden change in attitude have to do with his seventeenth birthday?

Imagine living in a town where supernatural beings stalk the night for their next prey. Toukei Ibun takes place 29 years after Tokyo was established as the capital of Japan. The decrepit building was condemned long ago, but every time the owners try to tear it down, "accidents" start to happen-people get hurt, sometimes even killed. Mai Taniyama and her classmates have heard the rumors that the creepy old high school is haunted-possibly by ghosts from the Second World War. So one rainy day they gather at the old school to tell ghost stories, hoping to attract one of the suspected spirits. No ghosts materialize, but Mai and her friends do meet Kazuya Shibuya, the handsome young owner of Shibuya Psychic Research, who's been hired to investigate paranormal activity at the school. Also at the scene are an exorcist, a Buddhist monk, a woman who can speak with the dead, and an outspoken Shinto priestess. Surely one of them will have the talents to solve this mystery!

As the death toll mounts, the doctors of the town suspect it to be a new type of epidemic, until they begin to see the figures of the deceased walking in the night. Shiki blurs the line between good and evil, following a story that has no true protagonists or antagonists, but rather two sides attempting to survive in a deadly environment. Can one be called evil because they didn't starve to death?
