Centers around Ginjirou Manda, a loan shark who charges toichi — 10% more interest every 10 days, or 365% every year. Thanks to his unrelenting money-collecting tactics, he is feared as "Minami no Oni" or the "Demon" of Osaka's Minami business district.

The story takes place in a world modeled after (and evidently parodying) that of a generic computer role-playing game. A young boy with no recollection of most of his life beyond his name and his mission runs into a group of hunters named Neithird and Duolos…" The manga Phantasy Star Third was done by Phantasy Star IV character designer, Yoshibon, for the Sega Players Enjoy Club in 1990. This work was published after Phantasy Star II and was used as the basis for creating Phantasy Star IV, a video game released in 1993. The manga is incomplete since the Sega Players Enjoy Club magazine folded; the final chapter ends abruptly after a swarm of robot soldiers attempt to surprise the trio at Third's house.

In "Bessatsu Coro Coro Comic" a joint production with Kaoru Obayashi's "Radio Controll Boy" which was also serialized in the same magazine, proved the popularity of the NES and radio controller, two major hobbies of the time.
