It's unfinished, originally intended to be 3-5 volumes. The manga was made for a French audience, in full color, with a simultaneous release in French and Japanese.

During the Interwar Period (1925-1932), Tomoji lives in the Japanese countryside while Fumiaki works as a photographer in Tokyo. One day, they meet… This story is inspired by real characters who founded later a branch of Buddhism.

Seton is the story of Ernest Thompson Seton (1860-1946), a famous American writer and naturalist.

Winter 1989, Alaska. Blanca has escaped from a secret training camp in the Soviet bloc, counting only on his instinct to pass the Bering Strait and reach Alaska, the land of wolves. Five short stories: - Raising a Dog (Inu wo Kau) - And Then, Caring for a Cat (Soshite Neko wo Kau) - View of the Backyard (Niwa no Nagame) - Three People's Days (Sannin no Hibi) - Promised Land (Yakusoku no Chi) The first one tells the death of an old dog, hence the title. The last one is a bit similar to a later work of the author, Kamigami no Itadaki. Raising a Dog won the Shogakukan Manga Award (examination committee special) in 1992.
