4 years agoAn adaptation of the 1993 live-action movie Super Mario Bros., this one-shot heavily truncates the story. It was published in Shogakukan's Monthly Corocoro Comic Summer Holiday Special 1993. Daisy requests the help of the Mario Brothers to save her flooded excavation site. She is abducted by Iggy and Spike and taken to an alternate dimension ruled by the tyrant Koopa. Mario and Luigi follow her and soon confront Koopa, who needs a meteorite piece to merge their two dimensions. Fungus-related shenanigans ensue. Can the plumbers stop Koopa from taking over the "surface world" with his de-evolution guns?

He would spend all his time trying to beat the games and conquer the local arcades. He would meet competitors like Satoru Daimonji and Ishii, who would try to out match him with higher scores. At a certain point in each episode, he would display his special skill of unleashing a top which will spin so fast that both the top and his hands would catch on fire. On release, the spin would land on or near the cabinet panels, turning the ordinary button into a turbo button thus giving him a major advantage. His appearance is known for being bucktoothed, and he always wears a hat labeled "Arashi" with a picture of a sprited alien. --- - **Won the 28th Shogakukan Manga Award for Children in 1983**

6 years agoThe plot revolves around an intranet-based online game (D.P. = Danger Planet) which is played using a V.P. (Virtual Puppet). VP is literally an avatar which a person uses in the game. However, unlike avatars (characters) from current online games, a VP is allowed to be modified (modded) by a person if he or she has sufficient programming skills. Kilio Nimra, a normal high schooler who likes games. He and his friend Kurata always plays Danger Planet after school, one day they meet a very tough opponent.

6 years agoKing Bowser, a nasty dragon-like creature, wants to marry the pretty Princess Toadstool of the Mushroom Kingdom, a fantasy world where such things like Kinopi (Mushroom) people live. Bowser then threatens the Princess into marriage with him by turning the residents of the Mushroom Kingdom into stone. As the Princess heads to get her revenge on the tyrant, the Mario brothers, two plumbers who've somehow winded up in the Mushroom Kingdom, venture out to stop Princess Toadstool before she creates even more trouble, all the while defeating Bowser in the process. **NOTE: Chapter 13.5 was not included in Viz's Super Mario Adventures reprint.**

It's sort of tutorial for the game, teaching you things about how to play it through a light choose-your-own-adventure/puzzle format. It’s pretty simple, as it’s aimed at 8-year-olds.

7 years agoThe Shape of Happiness is a tankobon of manga adaptations of Nintendo properties, released in March 1989. The ninth, tenth and eleventh stories in this anthology are based on the original Metroid. It was never officially released in English. The one-shots were written and illustrated by Sakura Tamakichi . Tamakichi would later team up with manga writer Kentaro Takekuma and serve as the artist for *Super Mario Adventures* under the pen name Charlie Nozawa.
