Gamu is a special dog belonging to the Kagero Clan of Japan in the 16th century. He is a Ganin - a dog ninja. Armed with armor and the ability to wield weapons, Gamu strives to defeat the evil Gama.
The series takes place six months after the end of GDW:O. The dogs have been at peace, and all has seemingly gone well. However soon the monsterous bear Monsoon attacks, wanting to claim Futago Pass as his own. All the while getting vengeance for his father- Akakabuto who was killed by Gin during the events of GNG.
Victory is not assured for the dogs, as an aging Gin has developed cataracts in his eyes, and the leader Weed is critically injured by one of Monsoon's kin. Weed's children have been sent away for training, and are oblivious to the crisis at hand.
Can the soldiers of Ohu defeat this new take on an old threat? Or is this truly be to their last fight?
The story takes place in 1579-1580 when Hakutaka was training with his father Ōzaru, who was the leader of the Iga ninja dogs whilst the human Iga members controlled the dogs. Ōzaru has a rivalry with Ryōga, the ancestor of Kurojaki and the two have fought in many battles. At the time of Hakutaka growing older and becoming more skilled, he develops a rivalry with Izuna, the son of Ryōga.
Over the series, the story reveals how Hakutaka became to be known as Akame as well as how the two warring clans developed over time.
This is the first and original story in the Ginga, the Silver Fang, series.
It covers the birth of the silver-coloured brindle bear-dog, Gin, whose father gets killed early in the story by the bloodthirsty bear Akakabuto.
Gin promises himself, his father and his human friends to swear revenge.
He trains together with his young human master, Daisuke to kill the bear to vengeance all his victims.
One day, while hunting bears in the mountains, Gin meets a pack of wild dogs with the very same goal.

A dog named Weed happens to hear he is the son of Gin, the great leader of Ohu, who lead the dogs of Ohu to victory in a fight against the monstrous bear Akakabuto.

The story is about Fubuki's training as Matagi-inu, hunting dog, with his master the Matagi hunter Jūzaburō. Fubuki and his master will try to kill the bear that killed the host's grandson. At the end of the story, as well as a bear that Jūzaburō get killed, when Fubuki leaves his home village and never return.
A spin-off of the series Ginga Densetsu Weed, Weed Gaiden is a collection of stories about multiple dogs and the trials they face. One story focuses on a character from the main series–Mel–and his journey to reunite with Weed at Ohu after his mother dies.
