7 years agoA sci-fi retelling of Wagner's "Ring of the Nibelungen", starring Captain Harlock. The series was first serialized from 1990 to 1991 in Chuukosha Fan, a used car magazine (!). A sequel was published for free directly on Shinchousha's webpage from 1997 to 2000, making it probably the first online manga.

Shiro, who happens to be passing by, rushes to hold the old man back, but he is unable to overcome the old man's power and is dragged into the burning apartment together with him. In the apartment, Shiro sees a beautiful picture of a battleship. Following the old man's instructions, Shiro and the old man hastily capture the burning picture on their cameras and escape in the nick of time. That night, the old man, who is supposed to be mortally wounded, comes to Shiro's house. He says that he really wants to see the battleship "Mahoroba," which Shiro had captured with his camera earlier, before he dies. What in the world is the "Mahoroba"?

1 year agoOn Feb 9th, 1989, legendary manga author Osamu Tezuka died after a prolonged hospital stay due to Stomach Cancer. Months later, Asahi Journal ran a Special issue as homage to Tezuka's legacy. This collection contains stories from two periods of Matsumoto's career, the latter half being an early example of his work as a shojo artist. 8 years agoUtamaro Kogawa is a travelling salesman, always accompanied by his younger sister Hotaru, his only beacon of light and hope. Going from place to place, he fulfills the needs of his clients for a price. What sorts of 'needs' does this salesman fulfill? In a world ruled by the depravity of men, one can only assume nothing but the worst. With every request fulfilled, a glimpse is given into the dysfunctions between men and women.
