Robot is an all-color manga compilation compiled and edited by the elite manga artist Range Murata, character designer for Studio Gonzo's Last Exile and Blue Submarine No. 6. Murata's hand-picked contributors come together in a mind blowing experiment of what happens when top manga artists work in the unusual medium of color.
Robot was partially published in English, the first three volumes by Digital Manga Publishing from September 19, 2005 to December 1, 2006, after which the license was taken over by Udon Entertainment, who published volumes 4 and 5 from December 1, 2007 to May 1, 2008, before they too dropped the license. It has been published in its entirety in French by Glénat.
A hero emerges from childhood cruelly and incomprehensibly maimed. He travels in search of a way to heal his wound, inflicted by his own father. The father intended thereby to seal a sinister pact with dark forces, which would ever after lie in wait along the son's path. The hero rides astride a trustworthy and magical mount and provides from the aid of a god.
Fear runs rampant throughout Tokyo with the revelation that demons in fact exist amongst us. Paranoia and the darker side of humanity boils onto the streets as people turn on one another, suspecting that anyone could in fact be a demon hiding in human clothing. Amidst the growing tensions, tragedy strikes Akira causing his mind to snap, retreating into his subconscious, allowing his Devilish alter-ego Amon to break free from Akira's cage of flesh and wreak havoc on both human and demons alike.
