An extremely rare SF work that was never collected after serialization in Volumes 2-8 of Manga Kisou Tengai (マンガ奇想天外) in 1980-81. The manga would get collected in the Otomo Complete Works with its own volume. From amazon.jp: This is a collection of works created by Katsuhiro Otomo between 1980 and 1981, when he was 26-27 years old. The collection includes the title work, which was serialized across six chapters in the quarterly magazine “Manga Kisotengai” published by Kisotengai-sha, as well as four short manga, a one-shot manga, and an Anthology series consisting of 12 stories. The S F work “APPLE PARADISE,” a mystery set on a huge resource-mining spaceship that is about to return to Earth from a distant planet, was never collected into tankobon form as was the case with the previous volume “G,” but now all six chapters (approx. 120 pages/unfinished) have finally been collected. The collection also includes the Wild West masterpiece “Memories of St. Bartholomew's Hill” and the complete “That's Amazing World” an anthology series based on fairy tales and literature. The short stories in the collection include two from “**SOS Greater Tokyo Exploration Team** (SOS Daitokyo Tankentai, SOS大東京探検隊)” (1996, Kodansha), first and fourth short stories from “**Her Thoughts...**(彼女の想いで…)” (1990, Kodansha), first and eighth short stories from “**Hansel and Gretel**” (1981, Sony Magazines), and one short story from ‘**GOOD WEATHER**’ (1981/Kitan-sha). The short story “I・N・R・I” was changed to the right-hand side when it was first published in a book, but in this book, it was changed back to the left-hand side as in the original manuscript and read from the end of the book, and also reprinted in nishoku as it was first published in the magazine. In addition, the short story “ELECTRIC BIRD LAND,” which appeared in black and white in the tankobon, is reproduced for the first time in its original nishoku version as it appeared in the magazine. --- - **Volume 7 of the OTOMO COMPLETE WORKS**

8 years agoWednesday, September 7, 2011 The Way Home [Yuu Vol. 10] So this is a oneshot from volume 10 of a horror magazine (or "ghostly magazine" as they call it) called Yuu (幽), website here. It contains short stories by various authors (some of which I'm working on translations of to post here), articles about things that are paranormal in some way (in this issue there was an article about the internet trend called ひとりかくれんぼ (or "one man hide and seek" as it's known in the west I think) and a collection of interviews about the dark side of maid cosplay, haha), photographs, "true" stories, and there's an annual literary prize, so in this issue there was a section written by people involved with the judging process with commentary about the entries and what makes a good horror story. There's also a manga section. This issue had four 6-page stories and a 12-page story each by a different mangaka. The one that I chose to translate for today is kind of similar to Fuan no Tane in that it has that urban legend, real-ish feel to it, though slightly longer and with more dialog. Description: Two brothers encounter something strange on their way home from the train station.
