The Shape of Happiness is a tankobon of manga adaptations of Nintendo properties, released in March 1989. The ninth, tenth and eleventh stories in this anthology are based on the original Metroid. It was never officially released in English. The one-shots were written and illustrated by Sakura Tamakichi . Tamakichi would later team up with manga writer Kentaro Takekuma and serve as the artist for *Super Mario Adventures* under the pen name Charlie Nozawa.

It is a wild west manga following his first work "Poker Under Arms". The original genko (manuscript) of this work was lost, and for a long time it existed as a "phantom work" that had not been collected into tankobon. 2004 saw the digital reprinting of this work from the magazine in which it appeared in and is part of "Gorgeous Irene".
