When a storm hits the pirate ship, the two are thrown into the sea and washed up on the shore of a solitary island in the southern ocean. To their surprise, this island is the one they have been looking for… The manga that made Tezuka famous. It is an action-adventure drama inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's book. This is the redone version for the Tezuka 400 Complete Works. When time came to collect NTI for the Complete Works, Tezuka had promised that *All* of his works would get collected, but the original version was presumed lost. Tezuka, wishing to keep on his promise, decided to redraw the entire manga from memory. The version restored characters previously cut (like Peter Pan). The original ending was also restored, making this the definitive version of *New Treasure Island*. The story is set at a beach, where a young boy walks in the sand before sitting down. Crowds come in to enjoy playing in the ocean, and then leave, with trash scattered all across the sand behind them. Suddenly the scene jumps to a hospital office where an old man with a cigar is telling a younger, thinner guy something about cancer, the amount of money involved, the idea that the money might stay in the family, etc. Then the scene shifts back with the boy standing up, brushing the sand off his seat and walking back home.

An extremely rare SF work that was never collected after serialization in Volumes 2-8 of Manga Kisou Tengai (マンガ奇想天外) in 1980-81. The manga would get collected in the Otomo Complete Works with its own volume.
